Dog Daycare Vaccination Requirements in Germany: HuTa Impfpass Checklist

German HuTas require rabies, SHPPi core, leptospirosis, and kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccinations. Complete Impfpass checklist with timing, boosters & EU Pet Passport requirements.

Published:

Every certified German dog daycare (HuTa) requires proof of up-to-date vaccinations before admitting your dog. Because dogs interact closely off-leash in shared indoor and outdoor spaces, vaccination requirements protect the entire pack from infectious disease outbreaks.

The four mandatory vaccinations for German HuTa enrollment are rabies, SHPPi core combo (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza), leptospirosis, and kennel cough (Bordetella). Your dog's EU Pet Passport (EU-Heimtierausweis) or vaccination booklet (Impfpass) must show current dates for all four.

Mandatory Vaccination Checklist for German HuTas

Vaccine German Name Frequency Required By Notes
Rabies Tollwut Every 1–3 years (per vaccine type) EU Law + all HuTas Legally mandatory across the EU
Distemper Staupe Every 3 years (core) ~100% of HuTas Part of SHPPi combo
Hepatitis Hepatitis contagiosa canis Every 3 years (core) ~100% of HuTas Part of SHPPi combo
Parvovirus Parvovirose Every 3 years (core) ~100% of HuTas Part of SHPPi combo
Parainfluenza Parainfluenza Every 3 years (core) ~100% of HuTas Part of SHPPi combo
Leptospirosis Leptospirose Annually ~95% of HuTas Bacterial; risk near water/mice
Kennel Cough Zwingerhusten (Bordetella) Annually ~95% of HuTas Intranasal or injectable

Kennel Cough (Bordetella): The HuTa-Specific Vaccine

Kennel cough (Zwingerhusten) is the most commonly missed vaccine by first-time HuTa enrollees. While rabies and SHPPi are standard for any dog, Bordetella is specifically required by group care environments because the bacteria spreads rapidly through shared airspace in indoor play areas.

Two Administration Methods

  • Intranasal: Drops applied into the nostrils. Takes effect within 48–72 hours. Mild sneezing or nasal discharge is normal for 1–2 days.
  • Injectable: Standard injection. Takes 10–14 days for full immunity. No nasal side effects.

Timing Matters

Most HuTas require the kennel cough vaccine to be administered at least 7 days before the first Probetag to ensure immunity before group exposure. Do not wait until the trial day.

EU Pet Passport (EU-Heimtierausweis) Requirements

Your dog's vaccination record must be documented in an official EU Pet Passport, which includes:

  • Owner details (name, address)
  • Dog identification (microchip number, implantation date)
  • Rabies vaccination entry (date, vaccine name, batch number, vet signature/stamp)
  • Additional vaccination entries (SHPPi, Lepto, Bordetella)
  • Deworming treatment (if applicable)

If your dog was vaccinated outside the EU, the vaccination record must be translated or accompanied by an official veterinary certificate. See Bringing a Dog to Germany: Requirements.

What If My Dog's Vaccines Have Expired?

Scenario Action Required
Rabies expired Re-vaccinate + 21-day waiting period before HuTa admission
Leptospirosis > 12 months Re-vaccinate; immunity considered lapsed after 12 months
Kennel Cough > 12 months Re-vaccinate; 7-day waiting period before group exposure
SHPPi booster overdue Consult vet for titer test or re-vaccination
